U.S. Coast Guard Pacific Southwest Phone: 206-815-6689

SAN DIEGO — Coast Guard Cutter Thetis crewmembers rescued three mariners from a disabled panga in the Eastern Pacific Ocean, Wednesday.

At approximately 9:50 p.m., while on a routine patrol, the crew of the Thetis spotted a disabled panga with three mariners aboard waving their arms and signaling distress.

District 11 assumed the role of search and rescue mission coordinator and directed the Thetis to investigate.

The crew launched the cutter’s small boatcrew and discovered three Ecuadorian nationals reporting they had run out of fuel, food and water. The Thetis crew safely embarked the survivors, who showed no medical concerns.

Repatriation procedures for the rescued mariners are pending.
