NEW YORK — The Coast Guard established a temporary safety zone Monday in the northern Atlantic Ocean between the Ambrose Channel Entrance and Sandy Hook Channel Entrance, which is scheduled to remain in place until April 12 to support a security-related exercise.
The safety zone will encompass an area bounded by the following positions:
- 40°27′43″ N, 73°56′10″ W
- 40°28′32″ N, 73°55′25″ W
- 40°27′9″ N, 73°52′48″ W
- 40°26′20″ N, 73°53′31″ W
- Returning to the point of origin at 40°27′43″ N, 73°56′10″ W
The safety zone will be enforced beginning Wednesday and remain enforced until all training equipment is recovered following the exercise.
Mariners will be notified of enforcement periods via Broadcast Notice to Mariners on VHF-FM channel 22A.
The temporary safety zone is intended to ensure the protection of personnel, vessels and the marine environment while the exercise is underway.
During enforcement periods, no vessel or person may enter the safety zone without obtaining permission from the Captain of the Port (COTP) or a designated representative, which could be managed by Coast Guard, Navy or local police personnel. Mariners seeking authorization should contact the COTP via VHF-FM channel 16.
