CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coast Guard suspended the search Sunday evening for a missing man near South Padre Island, Texas.
Rescue crews from the Coast Guard and partner agencies searched by air and sea for approximately 18 combined hours since the initial report and covered over 205 square miles.
Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi watchstanders received a notification Sunday at approximately 7:45 a.m. from Cameron County Sheriff's Department dispatchers reporting that a man had gone missing and was last seen swimming in waters near Boca Chica Beach.
Watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast and directed the launch of a Coast Guard Station South Padre Island Response Boat- Small crew and a Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi MH-65 Dolphin Helicopter crew to search for the missing man. An Air Station Corpus Christi HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft crew joined the search to relieve the MH-65 crew and continue the search.
