Coast Guard medevacs 1 from jetty near Galveston, Texas

HOUSTON — The Coast Guard medevaced one injured man who fell walking on a jetty near Galveston, Texas, Friday.

Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston command center watchstanders received a phone call from Galveston County Sheriff's Office personnel at 3:42 p.m. stating a 28-year-old man had fallen on the North Jetty and injured his leg and back. Galveston County emergency medical services personnel were able to assess the man's condition but could not safely transport him off the rocks. 

Watchstanders directed the launch of a 29-foot Response Boat-Small crew from Coast Guard Station Galveston and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Houston.

The helicopter crew arrived on scene, hoisted the injured man and transported him to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in stable condition.
