CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coast Guard held a community event at Water's Edge Park in Corpus Christi, Saturday.
During the event, members from Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi and surrounding units displayed equipment and discussed various Coast Guard missions.
Attendees interacted with Coast Guard aircrews, rescue swimmers, boat crews, law enforcement personnel and K9 officers, drone operators, watchstanders, search and rescue coordinators, pollution responders, Auxiliarists, recruiters and more.
“This event was a great opportunity to educate the Coastal Bend community on the diverse missions of the Coast Guard and hopefully inspire some young women and men to join our military service,” said Capt. Jason B. Gunning, commander, Sector Corpus Christi. “Our members really appreciated the chance to meet the community and share what we do to keep South Texas waters safe and secure."
Sector Corpus Christi consists of 334 active duty, civilian and reserve personnel with two marine safety units, three multi-mission small boat stations, three aids to navigation teams and three Coast Guard cutters.
