NEW ORLEANS —The Coast Guard medevaced a 36-year-old male Sunday near Panama City, Florida.
Coast Guard District Eight watchstanders received a notification from the International Emergency Response Coordination Center (IERCC) at approximately 3 p.m. Sunday, regarding a SOS message from a satellite communicator device, which watchstanders used to establish communications with the captain of the diving vessel Knot 2 Deep, located approximately 57 miles southeast of Panama City.
The captain reported that one of the divers had become unresponsive after surfacing from a dive. Fellow divers were able to get the man back onto the vessel and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) until the man became responsive again. District Eight watchstanders along with Sector Mobile watchstanders coordinated the launch of a Coast Guard Station Panama City 45-foot Response Boat - Medium boatcrew to assist.
The boatcrew arrived on scene and embarked the man onto the RB-M before transferring him to awaiting emergency medical services personnel at the Panama City Marina.
The man was last reported in stable condition.
