WHAT: Commissioning ceremony for the Coast Guard’s new Mardi Gras parade float. 

WHERE: Outside River City Venues, 1380 Port of New Orleans Place, New Orleans, LA, 70130

WHEN: Thursday, Feb. 1, at 1 p.m.

WHO: Rear Adm. David Barata, Coast Guard Eighth District commander, Capt. Christopher Keene, Coast Guard Eighth District chief of planning and force readiness, Chaplain Sunny Mitchell, Coast Guard Eighth District chaplain.

NEW ORLEANS — Media are invited to attend as the Coast Guard commissions its new Mardi Gras float for this year's carnival season Thursday, Feb. 1, at 1p.m.

The float will be used as the official Coast Guard float in parades in present and future Carnival Season activities in the New Orleans area. 

Rear Adm. Barata will speak at the ceremony along with Capt. Keene who will preside as master of ceremonies. 

Rear Adm. Barata will be available for interviews following the event.
