Coast Guard ramps up security efforts for 2025 United Nations General Assembly, announces East River restrictions

NEW YORK — The Coast Guard, along with multiple partner agencies, are positioned to support maritime security operations for the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York City Sunday through Saturday. Months of planning go into the preparation for this unique event where representatives from nearly 150 countries come together and work on a wide array of international issues. Coast Guard Cutter Spencer returns home to Portsmouth, Virginia after 83-day maritime border security patrol in the Caribbean Sea, Windward Passage

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The crew of Coast Guard Cutter Spencer (WMEC 905) returned to their home port in Portsmouth, Wednesday, concluding an 83-day maritime border security patrol in the Caribbean Sea and Windward Passage. Spencer’s crew deployed in support of Operation Vigilant Sentry while underway in the Coast Guard Southeast District area of responsibility. Crew members worked with interagency and international partners, conducting maritime safety and security operations to deter unlawful migration and protect America’s maritime borders.

Coast Guard seizes 75,000 pounds of cocaine through Operation Pacific Viper, averages over 1,800 pounds interdicted per day

The U.S. Coast Guard announced Thursday it has seized more than 75,000 pounds of cocaine in the Eastern Pacific Ocean since launching Operation Pacific Viper in early August, averaging over 1,800 pounds interdicted daily.

Coast Guard rescues 49 passengers aboard whale watching vessel after becoming disabled in Yaquina Bay bar

The Coast Guard rescued a whale watching vessel with 49 passengers aboard after the it became disabled in the narrow coastal bar near Newport on Wednesday. The captain of the 62-foot Discovery sent out a ‘mayday’ call to the Coast Guard after the vessel began producing excessive smoke and lost propulsion while in between the Yaquina Bay jetties at approximately 12:45 p.m.

Coast Guard publishes final rule for Okeechobee Waterway, St. Lucie River Railroad Bridge

MIAMI – The Coast Guard issued a final rule for the operating schedule that governs the Florida East Coast Railroad Bridge, across the Okeechobee Waterway, mile 7.41 in Stuart.

The Coast Guard awarded a contract valued at nearly $11 million to Ocean Construction Services Inc. on Sept. 9 for comprehensive modifications to Pier 1 at the Coast Guard Yard in Baltimore, Maryland.

SAN DIEGO — The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter David Duren (WPC 1156) interdicted 21 suspected aliens aboard a 30-foot vessel approximately 26 miles west of La Jolla, California, Sunday evening.

Coast Guard Awards $68 Million Contract for New HC-130J Hangars at Air Station Barbers Point

The U.S. Coast Guard awarded a contract to the Whiting-Turner Contracting Co. for the design and construction of two new membrane tension hangars and associated facilities at Air Station Barbers Point, Hawaii. The award totaling $68.857 million, will support HC-130J Super Hercules aircraft operations and enhance mission readiness in the Oceania District.

Coast Guard awards contract to support Mariner Credentialing Program modernization

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Coast Guard awarded a blanket purchase agreement Sept. 12 to Stealth Solutions Inc. to modernize the service’s Mariner Credentialing Program (MCP) information technology system and support revitalization of the maritime workforce and industry.
