Coast Guard Cutter Penobscot Bay, a 140-foot domestic icebreaker homeported in Bayonne, New Jersey, transits the upper New York Harbor near the Statue of Liberty on the first day ice breaking season Monday, Dec. 17, 2018. The Coast Guard’s ice breaking operations, conducted under Operation Reliable Energy for Northeast Winters (OpRENEW), are intended to ensure Northeast communities have the security, supplies, energy, and emergency resources they need throughout the winter.
